Privacy Policy

This page explains what data Lothound collects, why we collect it, what we do — and don’t do — with it, and who we share it with. Plain-language summary first, the detail below.

What we collect and why

  • Account & email. We store your name, email, and a hashed password so you can sign in, so we can send you your digest and any alert emails you’ve opted into, and so authentication works via better-auth. We do not collect a phone number or any address unless you give one to us.
  • Billing.Payments are handled by Stripe on the company’s Stripe Connect account. Lothound never sees your full card number — at most we see the last four digits, the brand, and the payment record alongside each charge.
  • Usage & alerts. We store the saved searches, watched verticals, alert thresholds, and the dispatch log of which alerts you received and when, together with your unsubscribe state for each alert stream. This is what powers your dashboard and lets you unsnooze / re-enable alerts without losing what you’ve already configured.

What we do NOT do with your data

  • We do not sell your personal data to anyone.
  • We do not share your email, billing information, or usage data with any third party for their own marketing purposes.
  • We use a third-party payment processor (Stripe) only to take payment, and a third-party email proxy to send you alerts — each receives only the minimum data they need to act, and none of them is permitted to use your data for anything else.

Third parties we share data with

  • better-auth — authentication provider; stores a session cookie and your auth records.
  • Stripe — payment processor; receives only the data Stripe needs to take and reconcile payment.
  • Email proxy — sends transactional mail (sign-up confirmation, your digest, alert emails). Receives only the recipient address and the message body.

Each is used solely to provide a service Lothound depends on. None of them is given your data for their own marketing, advertising, or list-building purposes.

Data retention

  • Your account stays active until you delete it. Deleting your account closes your session immediately and starts the erasure of your authentication records.
  • Billing records are kept for as long as Stripe holds them. We don’t keep a parallel copy of your card — we only retain the metadata Stripe surfaces for each charge.
  • Alert logs are kept while you have an account, plus a reasonable audit tail (so we can answer support questions like “did you actually send that alert on Tuesday” without holding every byte indefinitely).

Cookies

  • Auth session cookie — set by better-auth to keep you signed in. Strictly necessary for the service.
  • Locale cookie — only if and when an i18n module is installed; not currently active.
  • Analytics— only if you opt in. We don’t run analytics by default.

Your rights

You can ask us to access, correct, or delete your data at any time. To make a request, write to the contact email below. We respond to verified requests promptly and without charging a fee.
